What could replace a power plant site that would offer comparable tax benefits for the city of Salem? Plenty. A Vision for Salem released a professional study conducted by The Brattle Group, a world-renowned group of economists based in Cambridge, MA. The Brattle Report was delivered to Salem mayor Kim Driscoll, Governor Deval Patrick, and Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Ian Bowles.
1. to research and show a variety of possible redevelopment options that meet or exceed current tax payments from Dominion, and
2. urge local and state officials to conduct further studies on alternative uses for a 60+ acre waterfront site.
Our mission was successful--the city of Salem has received a $200,000 grant from the Massachusetts Energy Council to conduct its own study of the power plant site. Congratulations to the City of Salem.
